Ninah Muli Wayua and Dairy Sense
Ninah Muli Wayua is the young entrepreneur behind Dairy Sense's win in the Early Stage category of the AYuTe Africa 2025/26 Challenge for Young Kenyans, the agritech competition run by Heifer International. The Standard reported in May 2026 that she could scarcely believe it when her company was named a winner. The challenge drew 486 applicants, and Dairy Sense was one of eight startups to share its prize fund.
Founded in Nairobi in 2024, Dairy Sense builds a portable milk testing system for farms and collection centres. It combines sensors with AI analysis to flag quality, spoilage and contamination risks within about 30 seconds, guides the person running the check, and keeps a digital record of every test. The aim is to give smallholder farmers, cooperatives and processors a fair, shared basis for accepting milk and setting prices, as Kenya moves toward paying dairy farmers by quality rather than volume alone.
