About Branice

Branice Kazira and Signvrse

Branice Kazira is one of the founders of Signvrse, a Kenyan technology company using artificial intelligence to close the communication gap between Deaf and hearing people. The UNICEF Venture Fund, which features Signvrse among its portfolio companies, lists her alongside Elly Savatia as a founder of the venture, which it records as starting in 2023 and as female founded.

The company's flagship tool, Terp, uses lifelike 3D avatars and motion capture to turn speech and text into sign language in real time. Built on Azure AI Speech, it targets everyday settings where human interpreters are hard to find, from classrooms to clinics and workplaces. Its vocabulary database has grown past 2,300 signs, with the data expanded through work with Kenya's Deaf community, and the team focuses on Kenyan Sign Language rather than the American or British variants most global tools support.

In 2025 she was part of the four-member Signvrse student team, together with Anthony Marugu, Gheida Abdala Al Mashjery and Daniel Phillip, that reached the final three of the Microsoft Imagine Cup. That year the global competition drew more than 15,000 students from 150 countries, and each runner-up team received USD 25,000. The team members came from African Leadership University, Machakos University, Technical University of Mombasa and USIU-Africa, adding to a strong record of Kenyan finalists at the Imagine Cup.
